Busting myths about teeth
Does placing aspirin next to an aching tooth reduce the pain?
Toothache canNOT be reduced by placing an aspirin tablet anywhere in the mouth. On the contrary — it is a very harmful habit that damages the soft tissue around where the tablet sits.
Is bleeding gums normal?
Bleeding gums are one of the signs of periodontal disease. Think of your gums like the skin on your hands: if your hands bled every time you washed them, you would know something was wrong. Other signs are redness, swollen or tender gums, receding gums, persistent bad breath and pus between teeth and gums.
Does extracting upper teeth affect eyesight?
That is a myth. Eyesight cannot be affected by procedures on the upper teeth, including tooth extraction.
